A common misconception is that the Turks and Caicos is one island. However, this region consists of over 40 different islands and cays. Out of the 40 islands that can be found in this area, only 8 of them are inhabited – this means that there are many islands out there for you to explore! Every island that you visit within this region is different, and you’ll find that the people and cultures drastically change from one island to another.
In order to reach this area, you will have to fly to Provo and then take a boat or small plane to the Turks and Caicos. The best known island in the Turks and Caicos is the island of Providenciales, and it is also the hub of most tourist activity. If history is more your thing, spend some time exploring Grand Turk and Salt City, which offer lots of architecture, great old houses, and tons of interesting diving points. Nature lovers will adore the Middle Caicos and North Caicos that are full of green lands and lush woods, in addition to one of the largest cave networks within the entire Caribbean region. For those that love to fish, South Caicos is your ideal haven where you can find lobster, conch, and many other great creatures living in the sea. The Turks and Caicos are renowned for their beaches, often ranking high in the " Best Beaches in the World " lists. Scuba Diving is also a very popular activity in the region, with the unique undersea geology and aquatic animal life surrounding the island chain. Chartered trips are available from most of the islands, and will cater to divers of any experience level. For those with an eye towards staying closer to shore, snorkeling in the shallow Caribbean waters can still expose you to spme of the most amazing sights you'll ever see beneath the waves.
